  • '26 TodayA living tradition of service, hospitality, and fellowship — continuing into our sixth decade.

The Rotary Club of Cairo South was chartered in 1972 on a simple conviction — that a small group of committed people, meeting regularly over good company and good ideas, can change the shape of a community. More than fifty years on, that conviction has only deepened.

We meet on Sunday evenings at the Maadi Yacht Club, on the banks of the Nile, in a city whose history stretches back five thousand years and whose future is being written every day. Our members are doctors, engineers, lawyers, business owners, educators, and public servants — drawn together by the Rotary motto: Service Above Self.

"We are part of the world's largest service organization — but our work begins in our own city, on our own streets, with our own neighbours."

From health initiatives to literacy programs in our own neighbourhood, from international youth exchanges to the Explore Egypt program that has welcomed Rotarians from around the world — every project carries the same intent: lasting impact, built on lasting friendships.

A roster of professionals,
a community of friends.

Our members represent the full breadth of Cairo's professional life — physicians, engineers, lawyers, business leaders, educators, and public servants — bound by friendship and the Rotary motto, Service Above Self. Members are listed alphabetically.

Service in Action

Projects that
outlast us.

For more than half a century the Rotary Club of Cairo South has carried out service work across Egypt. The projects below are the club's signature, ongoing initiatives — together they touch tens of thousands of lives a year, from village schools to operating rooms, from prosthetic limbs to children's smiles.

Medical Convoys

43,200patients served over twelve years

For twelve years the Rotary Club of Cairo South has sent five to six medical convoys each year to the poorest and most underserved governorates of Egypt. Each convoy carries a full medical team: ophthalmology, general surgery, plastic surgery, paediatrics, orthopaedics, gynaecology, neurology, internal medicine, and endocrinology — together with examination and treatment across every specialty. Convoys are organised in partnership with the local Directorate of Health in each governorate, under the patronage of the Governor.

Cleft Lip, Palate &
Burn Reconstruction

2international partner foundations

In collaboration with two international charity groups — RotaPlast International and Alliance for Smile — the club organises specialist surgical convoys to Aswan and Luxor to examine and treat patients with cleft lip and palate and those requiring reconstruction after burn injuries. Each mission brings paediatric surgeons, anaesthesiologists, and nursing teams from around the world to work alongside Egyptian colleagues.

Al-Huda Wal-Nour
Charity Society RCC

A Rotary Community Corps partnership between the Rotary Club of Cairo South and the Al-Huda Wal-Nour Society in the village of Asneed, Qaliobia governorate — population approximately 50,000. Each September the society hosts an annual celebration attended by some 600 residents, honouring outstanding middle-school graduates (10 students), high-school graduates (30 students), Al-Azhar certificate holders at every stage, retiring teachers, Quran-memorisation winners, drawing and Arabic-calligraphy competition winners, and the society's workers. Year-round activities include Ramadan food boxes, school tuition support, Eid Al-Adha meat distribution, medical care for the sick, monthly second-hand clothing distribution, marriage assistance, and free drawing, sculpture, and Arabic-calligraphy classes.

Draw a Smile

200toys distributed at every convoy

Giving a child a toy has a real effect in easing fear and anxiety — and makes the doctor's task, particularly the surgeon's after an operation, far easier when the child is frightened and in pain. The moment the gift is handed over, the look transforms: the eyes brighten, and a smile draws itself across the child's face. With every medical convoy to the governorates of Upper Egypt, Draw a Smile distributes toys to children in the surgical wards and outpatient clinics — typically 100 to 150 toys per convoy, sometimes as many as 200, at a cost of EGP 8,000–12,000 per mission.

Step of Hope
خطوة أمل

25beneficiaries fitted in Phase One

A multi-club initiative to provide high-quality prosthetic limbs to people with limb loss in Egypt, run in three phases. Phase One has been completed, benefiting 25 individuals, in partnership with the Armed Forces Centre for Physical Medicine, Rehabilitation and Rheumatology in Agouza, and with the Rotary Clubs of Heliopolis Sporting (organising), Cairo South, 6 October Royal, Giza Metropolitan, Satellite Cairo North Palace, and Cairo Royal. The initiative restores mobility, rebuilds independence, and gives beneficiaries the means to work and support their families — relieving a major financial burden on low-income households. The prosthetic devices and training in their use are provided entirely free of charge. The Rotary Club of Cairo South's contribution to Phase One was EGP 35,000.

Let's Go Out

monuments, memories, and friendships

A standing programme of club outings, designed to explore the beauty and variety of tourism in our own country — to deepen the club's cultural and historical knowledge, and to strengthen the social bonds between members. The destinations are deliberately varied, taking in the many civilisations that have left their mark on Egyptian soil: ancient Egyptian, Greco-Roman, Coptic, and Islamic, alongside the culture and traditions of the Bedouin of the oases. We seek out the architectural artistry of the royal palaces and the treasures they hold, and we make every outing a step further into the history, the knowledge, and the lives of those who came before us.

Nor El Sabah
Charity Society RCC

9 + 12women trained · graduated & in progress

A Rotary Community Corps partnership with the Nor El Sabah Society for the Rehabilitation of People with Disabilities in El Warraq, running two programmes. Coloring & art workshops for children — finishing a coloured page gives a measurable lift in self-esteem; one workshop hosted 45 children at a cost of EGP 3,000. Free sewing training for mothers — designed for women without prior skills, often the sole carers of a child with a disability, structured to let them work from home and earn a real income. The course runs in three phases of three levels each: bedsheets/towels/curtains, then nightwear/abayas, then outerwear for children/women/men. Phase 1 Level 1 has graduated 9 women with training certificates, financial support, a complete cutting kit, and a piece of fabric (EGP 15,000). Phase 1 Level 2 is now in progress with 12 women — all mothers from the society.

Vocational Training
Small & Medium Enterprise Management

ideas turned into sustainable businesses

Courses in the management of small and medium enterprises play a decisive role in turning ideas into successful, sustainable businesses. They equip entrepreneurs with modern, evidence-based methods of planning, resource allocation, and risk management — reducing the rates of failure and loss, creating jobs, and supporting the local economy. The Rotary Club of Cairo South runs these courses regularly, with experienced business leaders as instructors and Rotary District 2451 hosting the sessions.

Maadi Public Library
Annual Cultural Competition

young talents nurtured each year

These cultural and artistic competitions are nothing less than a strategic investment in the development of people and community — sharpening talent, strengthening identity, and stimulating creativity, in a way that builds a more conscious and more imaginative society. Each year the Rotary Club of Cairo South supports the Maadi Public Library's Annual Cultural Competition, in recognition of the genuine work the Library carries out to educate and develop its young members across a wide range of cultural and artistic fields — encouraging reading and languages, information technology, drawing, and music. The breadth of the competition reflects the Library's commitment to embracing every kind of talent and interest.

Dear Fellow Rotarian,

We invite you to take part in Explore Egypt, organised by the Rotary Club of Cairo South, which welcomes fellow Rotarians from around the world, together with their friends and guests, to discover the country that has shaped civilization itself.

This initiative aims to introduce Rotarians to Egypt not as ordinary tourists but as guests of fellow club members — through stories of history and heritage, in the true spirit of Rotary Fellowship.

Archaeology, faith, and the Nile come together at the meeting place of three continents, where the legacy of the Pharaohs, the splendour of Coptic and Islamic Cairo, and the desert silences of Fayoum create a setting unlike any other in the world.

We look forward to sharing this memorable experience of culture, history, and friendship with you.

Warm Rotary regards, Rotary Club of Cairo South

Four reasons we open the door.

I.

Know Egypt

To share with fellow Rotarians the oldest civilization on earth — home to one of the original Seven Wonders of the World, and a living link to five thousand years of human history.

II.

Fundraising for the Club

Every itinerary contributes to the service projects of the Rotary Club of Cairo South — medical convoys, cleft and burn reconstruction, and the work yet to come.

III.

Fair Trade

By employing local drivers and Egyptologist guides directly — without intermediaries — we ensure that fair wages reach the people who do the work, in the spirit of ethical tourism.

IV.

New Fellowships

Each visit is an opportunity to build lasting friendships between Cairo South and Rotary clubs around the world — the foundation on which Rotary itself is built.
